6m³ Skip Hire Across the Winelands

One request gets you a skip price for your address in the Cape Winelands. Tell us the town, the job and when you need the bin, and an operator who runs skips in that town comes back to you.

Twelve towns, five municipalities

The Cape Winelands is not one rulebook. Each town below sits in its own municipality, with its own facility and its own by-law. This is the map the rest of the site runs on.

Franschhoek, Klapmuts, Pniel and Kylemore are Stellenbosch Municipality — not Drakenstein.

What this page covers

Six short sections, then the request slip.

What we do, in one paragraph

Winelands Skips is a skip-hire request desk for the Cape Winelands District. You tell us what you are clearing and where, and we put the request in front of a skip operator who delivers to that town. The operator quotes you, drops the bin, collects it when it is full, and takes the waste to a licensed facility.

We are not the municipality's refuse service and we do not pretend to be. Kerbside household collection is the municipality's job. This is skip hire: a bin on your property or, with permission, on the verge, for a renovation, a clean-out, a garden, a farm or a building site.

Which size you need

The 6m³ skip is the size most Winelands jobs ask for. It takes a kitchen or bathroom strip-out, a garage clean-out, or a few weeks of building rubble without needing a second bin. Smaller jobs — a single room, a small garden clear, a move-out — usually fit a 2m³ or 4m³. A whole-house renovation or a farm clean-up needs the 8m³.

If you are not sure, say what you are clearing in the form and the operator will size it with you. Getting the size wrong is the most common way a skip booking goes badly: too small and you pay for a second bin, too large and you pay for air.

  • 2m³ — one room, a small garden, a single-unit move-out
  • 4m³ — a bathroom or kitchen strip-out, a garage, a small flat
  • 6m³ — the standard renovation and building-rubble skip, and the size we quote most
  • 8m³ — a whole-house renovation, an estate clean-up, a farm or cellar clear-out

Where we deliver

The Cape Winelands District is five municipalities, and skip rules, tipping points and even the by-laws differ between them. We cover the towns below. Each town page names the municipal facility that actually serves it, the permit rule for that municipality, and the access notes that matter in that town.

  • Stellenbosch — Stellenbosch Municipality
  • Franschhoek, Klapmuts, Pniel and Kylemore — Stellenbosch Municipality
  • Paarl, Wellington and Simondium — Drakenstein Municipality
  • Tulbagh and Ceres — Witzenberg Municipality
  • Worcester — Breede Valley Municipality
  • Robertson — Langeberg Municipality

What a skip costs, and why we do not print a number

Skip prices in the Winelands move with the size of the bin, the kind of waste, the hire period, the weight at the weighbridge, the tip fees at the facility that serves your town, and how far the truck has to travel. A published blanket price is either wrong for your address or made up.

So we quote per job. You send the details once, the operator prices it, and you get a number before anything is dropped. The guide on how the quote is built is on the costs page, and it names every line the operator will charge for.

What you may not put in a skip

A skip is for general waste, building rubble and garden waste. South African landfill rules prohibit a list of things outright, and a load that contains them can be refused at the gate or returned to you.

The full list, with the regulation it comes from, is on the what-we-take page. The short version: no asbestos, no tyres, no lead-acid batteries, no gas bottles, no liquid waste, no medical waste, no paint or solvent, and nothing that is corrosive, explosive or flammable.

How the hire runs

You ask for a bin. The operator confirms the size, the price, the delivery day and where the bin may stand. The bin is dropped, you fill it, and you call when it is full or when your hire period ends. The operator collects it, weighs it and tips it at the facility that serves your town.

If the job runs on, most operators will swap a full bin for an empty one rather than leave you with a full bin and no way to work. Ask for the swap when you book, not when the bin is already full.

What we ask you for, and why

Four things decide whether a skip booking goes well: the town (which sets the tip run and the permit rule), the load (rubble and garden waste are priced differently), the weight (a bin of concrete and a bin of branches are not the same load), and the date (a farm's busy week is not a quiet week for the trucks).

So the request asks for those four and little else. There is no account to open, no card to leave and no obligation to accept the quote that comes back.

If you are comparing quotes

Ask each operator for the same five lines: the bin size and hire period, the weight allowance, whether tipping is included, the delivery and collection run, and what a swap costs. A quote that names all five can be compared. A single number cannot.

Towns we do not cover

Somerset West, Strand, Gordon's Bay and the rest of the Helderberg sit outside the Cape Winelands District and are served by the Western Cape skip-hire site. Towns inside the district that are not listed on the towns page are a question, not a promise: ask, and we will tell you whether an operator will drive there.

The four questions everyone asks

Size, price, permits and what may not go in the bin.

All the questions
  1. Do you deliver to farms and smallholdings?

Yes. Farm, vineyard and estate work is one of the reasons this site exists. Say it is a farm road when you send the request so the operator sends a truck that can reach it.

  2. Can the bin stand on the street?

Only with the municipality's permission. Stellenbosch and Drakenstein both require written consent before a bin goes on a public road or verge, and Stellenbosch also requires the bin to carry the operator's details, reflective chevrons and a cover. The skip-permits guide sets out each municipality's rule.

  3. How long can I keep the bin?

That is part of the quote. Some operators price a set number of days and then a daily rate; others price the bin until it is collected. Ask for the hire period in writing before the drop.

  4. What happens if the bin is overloaded?

The operator can refuse to lift it, or charge for the extra weight. Building rubble is heavy and a 6m³ bin fills with weight long before it fills with volume. Say what you are putting in so the size and the weight limit are agreed upfront.

The request

Request a bin for your address

Tell us the town, what you are clearing and when you need the bin. We pass it to an operator who delivers there, and they come back with a price before anything is dropped.

  1. One form. No account, no card, no obligation.
  2. A local operator confirms the size, the hire period and the price.
  3. Nothing is dropped until you accept the quote.

The request desk is not the skip company: the operator who quotes you delivers and tips the bin. The footer of every page says the same thing.
